Q: I have new ipad. I switch on as instructed, and get screen with slider  inviting me to set up. I then get a wi-fi set up screen in Japanese! There seems to be no way of getting to a home page in order to change the language to English, and proceed. Help!

My brand new ipad insists on talking to me in Japanese. I slide the "set-up" slider and get the Wi-fi set up screen in Japanese. I can't follow the instructions to change the setting to English, because I can't get the home screen to start that procedure. All I can get is the Wi-fi set up page - in Japanese! Help! Switching on and off doesn't help, because the same sequence occurs, and no other options appear to be available.

You should do a reset and start from the beginning where you choose the language.

Dear Diavonex, Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately, I am not able to follow your recommended path. When I switch on the ipad, I get a grey screen with the Word "Ipad" and a slider at the bottom with the words "Slide to set up" (in a mass of different languages in succession). When I slide this slider to the right, I get the WiFi set up page in Japanese. There is no arrow top right on either screen. The first screen has "ipad" in small letters in the top left corner, and a battery state icon in the right hand top corner. There is nothing else. On the second screen (Japanese WiFi set-up) there is likewise no arrow top right. There seems to be no way to access the home page or indeed any other page. Tapping the home page button simply takes me back to the same thing.  I could maybe put in my WiFi data on the second screen and hope to proceed from there, but since it is all in Japanese, I can't do that.  The ipad came from the UK and the small instruction card with it is in English. Why it is set up for Japanese, I have no idea. Any further tips would be welcome.
