I have recently moved to NY City. When I ride the subway I am getting high data usage charges on my IPhone 5 (Verizon) even tho I am not using the phone.
Does anyone know what it happening...
A ten minute subway ride is resulting in 0.7 GB of data usage.
I'm not streaming anything, texting or talking.
My hotspot is off.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

How do you know you are using exactly .7 GB of data while riding the subway? I'm curious to know how you figure that out exactly.
BTW, there are several stations now that have cell service as well as wifi:

Cross referenced the phone bill details.
The times where usage was more than typical for activity exactly matched times riding subway to/from work.
Some times were ~0.7 GB others were ~ 0.5 GB.
Those stand out on the bill details.
