How to summarise a text in Pages?
I am trying to summarise a text - I know Word can do it but wondered if I can do this in Pages?

System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Services. Scroll down to the "Text" section. Put a checkmark in front of "Summarize". Now, select some text in any application that supports Services. Choose Services > Summarize. The Services menu is available in the Contextual Menu (Right-Click, Control-Click, or whatever) or in the Application Menu (e.g, Pages > Services > Summarize).
That's neat Jeffrey!
How long has that been there?
Peter
Thanks Jeffrey! Thats amazing. Got it all working.

It's been around a long time — early days of OS X, at least. I don't know why it's not widely known.
Services has been but I don't recall Summarise being in there. Mostly you had to import your own useful services from 3rd parties.

I'm pretty sure I remember playing with Summeri[zs]e a long time ago. Looking just now at "About Summary Service", it says "Copyright © 1995-2012, Apple Inc." That implies it was around in some form long before OS X. Maybe I'm remembering some older incarnation.
Ahh that date gives it away!
Just looked it up, it comes from NeXTSTEP.
I can't remember exactly which version of OSX first got Services but am pretty sure it was one of the later ones and only in Snow Leopard did we finally get the means to organise them. Prior to that it was a mess of stuff installed by other applications behind our backs and with no obvious origin or explanation of what or how they do what they do.
Like much of Apple's efforts these days unfortunately. 😟
