HP P1102w paper out error message?

Purchased HP P1102w laserjet - when I go to print I am getting an out of paper message? Of course there is paper, I've checked and rechecked everything that HP recommended. Tried wireless and through USB getting same response. Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks, lordches

Hi Shane,

thanks for your help, I've tried some of the suggestions - cleaned pick roller - I have a feeling it may be an install problem - I can't access any utilities or drivers? I go to sys pref/print and scan/ but I can't go any farther? I'm wondering if I'm stuck in manual instead of auto? If I hold the cancel (X) button down for 5 seconds it prints the self test / device config sheet? It does pick up the paper - what I get on the Print & Scan window is "The Paper Tray Is Empty?

That sounds a lot like a software problem. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and it's software. The documents linked below will go over how to uninstall and reinstall the printer's software. The post linked below will go over a few other things that you can do to help correct software problems. Let me know what happens.

While trying several different things and just about to give up for the day, I noticed there were 2 updates waiting - 1 was for Java to update HP and the other Garage Sale - I figured I would give it a try before I deleted / trashed the printer - guess what! It worked!! I was going to copy down the update but it went away and I'm having trouble finding it on my machine. If you want it, let me know how to find the latest updates and I'll send it to you. I'll keep this conversation close by in case I get in more trouble with the printer. I thank you very much for your time and expertise on this matter.

Shane,

Ever since the Mavericks update, I can't do Two-Sided printing on an iMac with my beloved HP1102w printer. I get the out of paper error message and all printing halts.

My firmware datecode is 20130703

My software driver version is 20101117

So I believe that I am up to date.

I cleaned my paper pick roller. I can print one-sided sheets but printing two-sided is the only problem.

HP Support told me they are aware of the problem and a new driver will be announced. No date could be given.

I am ready to buy a second HP1102w but need to be sure this is a known problem and a driver fix will be issued. I need to be sure of that.

Can you please help me?
