Mac keeps freezing

My macbook was working fine, until a few days ago. It froze so i turned it off and the turned it back on. When i turned it on it took 20 min for it to start up. When it finally started up it would freeze up when i right click on anything mainly the dock. I even did a virus scan and there is no virus.

Hopefully somebody a lot smarter about all this will drop by since this isn't my strong suit and I never used Snow Leopard.

First, you should look over this list and make sure there isn't anything there you don't use any more or will probably not use.

And I'll point out some items that have been known to cause issues for other users:

Norton (symantec) of course

CleanMyMac (can do more harm than good)

DivX

MacFUSE

Silverlight

org.samba.winbindd.plist (lots of complaints both here in the Forum and other Google entries)

Items that [failed] to load are sometimes an indicator, but others are just temporarily disabled on purpose.

If you must have VMWare, make sure it's up-to-date and expect it to slow things down when in use.

There are several others that I've never heard of. You seem to have a lot going on here.

Not sure why nothing shows up for the last three catagories. I posted an inquiry to EtreSoft about those.

Check your system.log and see if it contains any runaway failure error entries.

I suggest that you again review the document that I gave the link to in my initial response. Pay particular attention to the Safe Boot and Third party sections.

You also have 'CleanMyMac' installed which is another unnecessary problem maker. You may find that a reinstall of the OS and then a systematic installation of all third party applications will be required. Again, omit Norton and Clean My Mac.

Ciao.

The overwhelming majority of Mac users have no need for Kerberos. I suggest you contact the MIT development team and determine exactly how to uninstall it.

For most Mac applications, deleting a plist will essentially reset that particular feature. That may be the case with Kerberos but I cannot guarantee that since I have no experience with that application.

Ciao.

I read that this can cause slow login. How do i fix it?

Found this at MacRumors:

"Fixed Kerberos by deleting the file com.apple.Kerberos.renew.plist

"

if you are looking for a better way to deactivate the service:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.Kerberos.renew.plist

it might happen that when you just delete a file out of this directory, the corresponding agent does not get startet even after you put it back (i had this problem with com.apple.SystemUIServer.plist).

be very careful when deleting files from this directory
