iPhone 4S storage

Why does my iPhone 4S show my total storage as 4.9GB, but when I add up the size of the items listed on my phone it only comes out to about 3GB? How can I find where that additional 1.9GB of storage is being used?

Thank you for your help!

Hello swsun123,

Great question, and welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

The following articles outline storage capacity on the iOS devices. Keep in mind, this "other" space you are calcuating is going to be utilized by "Everything else": such as contacts, calendars, the iOS software installed on your device, settings, and other system resources.
