What backpack should I purchase?

The Apple store has many cases that would be appropriate. For safety, I'd avoid any backpack that is branded in any manner that would indicate that a computer might be inside.

Search the online & offline Apple Stores for notebook backpacks. Also search Apple resellers like MacMall. Do a Google search.

I admit that I normally "kill" backpacks quickly. I would go through them about one each year until I got my first "SwissGear" backpack about 6 years ago. I used it for 5 years before I finally needed to replace it. After replacing it, I've used the replacement for nearly a year and it still looks fairly new. SwissGear claims to be made by the same company that makes "Swiss Army Knives", so if you like their quality, you might look into the backpacks. They are not the cheapest, running $90-120 for the ones to hold a 17" notebook like I have.

As someone else mentioned, you don't really want your backpack to scream "steal me because I have a computer in me" to potential "opportunists", so perhaps consider other style bags instead.

I second the SwissGear line. Bottom is thick plastic for sitting on hard ground, spring-loaded shoulder straps, handles of plastic-wrapped steel cable.

I have put mine through h*ll for 4 years carrying many many pounds of things and it is just fine.

I have - and like very much - the Booq backpacks.
