how do I share my iPhoto slideshow

I made a 20 min slideshow with videos & pictures for my daughters All Star team party. I cannot figure out how to save it in a way that I can play it for our party. We will be using a projector, with either a dvd player or a macbook connected to it. Can I share it someway? I made it on my imac, but don't know how to share it. I also have icloud if thats a possibility.

Export your slideshow as a video:

  • Select the slideshow in the source list and press the "Export" button.
  • Select the video format: "Display"
  • Then press the "Export" button in the panel.

iPhoto will now render a video file to your Desktop. Be prepared to wait for several hours for this rendering to finish.

Save this videofile to a thumbsdrive or a data DVD to be able to show it on the macbook.

Or burn a video DVD to be shown in the DVD player. You will need a a special burn program to burn a video DVD: iDVD, Toast, Burn to name a few.

How do I know if the external drive is formated this way? I have recently had a new hard dive installed in my computer. (For more space) Could this be the problem?

To check quickly, select the drive in the Finder.

  • Then use the command "File > Get Info" from the Finder's main menu bar (or press ⌘I).
  • Disclose the "General" brick in the Info panel, also the "Sharing & Permissions" brick. (click the padlock icon to unlock)

The Format should show "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)"

In the "Sharing Brick" enable the flag "Ignore ownership on this volume", if it is available. It will not show on your System drive, only on a secondary dik.

Is the formatting o.k.?

If the drive is formatted correctly?

it plays well in fullscreen, although sometimes the videos are a bit delayed. My iphoto library is on my computer. Not on an external harddrive.

Is it a second drive in your computer, or is it on the system drive? For the system drive the formatiing is probably correct, since MacOS X needs to be installed on a correctly formatted disk.

If it is a second internal drive, check the formatting as described above. If the format is wrong(MS-DOS (FAT)) or something, you need to backup all data on the drive and refrmat it with Disk Utility.

I just made a mini slideshow with about 5 pictures, no videos & I get the same message. 😟

Try to repair your iPhoto Library - repair the permissions and repair the database.

How to will depend on your iPhoto version - this document describes how to repair for different iPhoto versions, see: iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

What is your iPhoto Version and your MacOS X version?

What is the format of your photos? Raw or Jpeg?

is there anyway I can share it with my friends macbook & then I can play it thru that?

How large is your iPhoto Library?

If your friend has ithe same Photo version, you could copy your iPhoto library to an external drive or a thumbsdrive and connect the drive to the iMac, then play it from there. You can delete all events that have not been used for the slideshow from the copy.

The external drive must be formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled) ) and the

"Ignore ownership on this volume" flag, to avoid permission problems when accessing the iPhoto library from different user accounts.

Is your library on a shared network volume? The error message suggests that. Then etwork problems will account for the trouble with the slideshow.
