New ssd install in MBP (mid 2009) and a few migration questions

Installed snow leopard (10.6.8?) and a new crucial m500 480gb in my MBP today. I chose a new install as opposed to carrying my old stuff from my old hdd and previous PowerBook.

I haven't installed mountain lion yet (reluctant to from the reviews and a few bugs they have to work out) and have a few questions on migrating some of my info from my hdd (now in an external case) to my new ssd......

-I would assume I will be using migration assistant?

-What trim program would be best to use with snow leopard? (I was checking out trim enabler 2.2 download)

-How do I move all of my photos from the hdd to the new ssd?

-How do I move the videos from my Flip camera to the new ssd? (I want to move the whole program along with the MANY videos I had along with it)

-my iTunes videos/music would need to move over too-how?

-Microsoft word/excel?

And, I think lastly, what about organization? Would creating 2 logins (one for me and one for my wife) help us to organize our contacts, calendars, etc? Would we be able to share the same music, photos, and contacts between us? Maybe a link to organizing within snow leopard and multiple users would be another big help for a noob like me!

Sorry for such basic questions!

You must not get much sleep:)

I would rather not clone the drive as I had a corrupt iPhoto library and the photos were all out of order. I also had documents all over the place ( no longer need them) and wanted a nice, neat, clean install and then keep this install more neatly than the last-it was a mess.

So, considering my circumstances, would I use the migration assistant or disk utility? Migration assistant?

How about the organizing issue? We each have iPhones. Would the contacts under one username (mine) sync to hers?

If we had individual sign-ons would the calendars, and contacts be separate?

We have always shared one username (mine) for all of our stuff.....not a good idea?

In that case, it's better Migration Assistant. It will allow what you want to migrate. Has she got a separate account or a different iTunes library for her information? If not, both will have the same applications and information when you sync them to iTunes, always that you haven't got different iTunes libraries. Respecting to contacts, that will only happen if both of you are using the same iCloud account, or if you are using the same iTunes library

I decided to disable the sudden motion sensor via terminal command and downloaded and installed Trim Enabler for my Crucial M5 ssd. I rebooted and it seems to be working fine.

I have my hdd in an external case now and would like to move the itunes info over to my new ssd. Do I just open Migration Assistant and follow the directions or is there more to it than that?

Migration Assistant gives me options to transfer from another Mac or startup disc. I would assume it is the latter of the two? Startup disc would mean my external hdd, right?

It won't let me manually select each application that I want to install. I don't want them all migrated, but I believe it is moving my whole applications folder. Is there an option to just select certain apps?

How disappointing. I will probably just re-install the os and go from there. I had apps from my Powerbook years ago that were there and many that I no longer used. I only wanted my photos, videos, contacts, and music transferred over.

I am sorry, I thought you said to use Migration Assistant over Disk Utility for moving the files. So, in the future, I should manually move iTunes only or my Photos too?
