How do I turn on voice navigation in apple maps so I can drive while using maps without having to look at my phone.

I have an iPhone 6s, updated software.

I have all sounds on for voice navigation.

I believe the problem lies within the USB connection to my car. I believe the phone thinks it should play the voice over through the car (because it's connected via USB), but I just want it to come through the phone

what phone do you have and what country are you in?

If you have an iPhone 4, this feature will not be avaialble. If you have an iPhone 4S or later, you can go to Settings > Maps and make sure that the voice is turned on and at the volume that you would like it.

If you do have an iPhone 4, download the Google Maps app and it will have the voice over feature.

Turn-by-turn navigation is available only on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 or later with cellular data capability. Flyover is available only on iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad 2 or later, and iPod touch (5th generation). Cellular data charges may apply.
