15" macbook pro retina keeps shutting down

Question

My 5 week old MBPR started shutting itself down randomly last night. It shuts down without a warning and then I have to press the power button to reboot it. I am running Mountain Lion (10.8.4) and tried resetting the SMC a few times but that did not help.Even in target/recovery mode, it decided to shut itself down immediately in about less than a minute. Also, at some point, the battery appeared with a cross on it and when I looked up the Sytem Information, it said no battery deteceted. Any clues?

Since the SMC reset didn&#x27;t help, Apple recommends reseating the battery. If that doesn&#x27;t help, contact AppleCare &gt;  MacBook Pro:Battery not recognized after being fully drainedmessage edited by:  cs

Thanks for your reply.The battery shows up now (before the laptop decides to shut itself), it just did not show once while SMC reset. You still reccommend resetting it?Prior to this problem, the battery was always working fine and was wonderful with a close to 6 hour backup with medium load.

I had left my laptop alone for a week and just turned it on. As soon as I connected the ethernet cable using the thunderbolt, it froze and rebooted with the classic error message (this had not happened before).
