Why does iCloud use ME.com to operate e-mail when it doesn't work?

Can someone please tell why in the world does the account setup program in Mail.app not recognize icloud as icloud.com? I keep getting 404 errors from me.com It keeps forcing me to set up any icloud account under the server p02-imap.mail.me.com and all the help articles online ALSO say me.com WHY ISNT ANYONE AT APPLE AWARE OF THIS?????

Why is it so hard for the apple programmers to fix these kinds of issues???? I can't set up my Apple E-mail on an Apple Program on an Apple computer.... What's wrong here???
