I went to my local mac store and they said my macbook air is considered an antique! /rolls eyes. I thought it was unusable because of this hinge and it has sat in a closet for over a year, now I figure out they will fix them and they say no. what to do?

Well, I wouldn't call any Macbook Air an antique, however, if it sat in a closet for over a year, then it is no longer under warranty, and any fixing that has to go on will have to be paid for by you....

Maybe if you had taken it in when the hinge first acting up you could of gotten it fixed. Next time you have something that isn't working right take it into a repair place as soon as possible, not wait a year.
wow, love the replies and support ! NOT... I buy apple to have items last longer than 3 years and be better constructed. I have owned macs since they were invented in the 80's. Not appreciating the latest rounds off pushing products on its loyal customers. they are taking form microsofts playbooks.
Where do you get tyhe "Taking from MS playbook"? Last time I checked MS was still supporting Windows XP which came out in 2001. Apple has stopped supporting leopard and will soon drop all support for snow leopard if they haven't already.
MS will also support Windows 7 until 2020 or beyond.
Sure macs last but when something goes wrong, as it does, you need to take it in to a apple store ASAP not wait a year then come here to complain.
are you a software person or a hardware person. you can't buy windows 2007 anymore, supporting it is a different thing. I can't buy lion anymore now that snow lion came out.

Apple drops support for hardware after 5 years. So I take it your air is 5+ years old. If not take it to some other apple store and also call apple, 1800MYAPPLE, and complain directly to them. This is a user to user forum and most all participants are users just like you.

it is not 5 years old, as the helpful lady above stated, it is out of warranty and I was mad the young kid called it an antique at three years.
Oh then whoever you spoke to at the apple store you went to should be reprimanded and apple should have no problem fixing your hinge. Go back and speak to the manager.
