Mid-2013 Macbook Air screen goes black?

I just got my shiny new mid-2013 MBA (haswell 13" i5 256GB SSD 8GB RAM) and it's been rockstar (no WIFI problems). However, last night, when I was browing the web, the screen went black all of a sudden and wouldn't come back on. I had to press the power button (heard the fan shut off), and then press power again to make the system wake back up from sleep. Any ideas what caused this, and should I be concerned in the future?

In follow-up to my message above, I'm still having the same problem. I can't tie it o any specific behavior or use of the computer, it's very sporadic. My computer was a custom configuration - 8 gigs ram, 512 HD.

This past weekend I bought another MacBook Air for my niece who is heading off to college, right off the store shelves, and within the first evening it exhibited the exact same problem. Right in the middle of doing something the screen goes dark, but with a sort of light behind it so you know it's not turned off. The mouse works right over the top of it. You have to wait and wait and eventually hitting the power button will let you turn it off and then turn it on again.

What's the consensus, is it best for all of us to report this but in an official way? Do we wait for the update? I don't really want to get a new machine - I just got this one set up the way I like it!

It's happen to me about 7 or 8 times today. About 4-5 times in the last hour or so. My screen goes completely black. I have to tap a key or click the trackpad and it comes back on again. It's like the computer goes to sleep because I lose WiFi connectivity and it takes a 3 or 4 seconds to wake up. It probably happens 2-3 times a day on a normal day. I don't know why it's doing it so much today. I guess I better call Apple tomorrow.

Update: I spoke with Apple over the phone and they said they haven't had any "trending" similar issues (yet). I'm not in front of the laptop, so they couldn't run through any diagnostics at the moment. It's documented with Apple now though, and I plan to call when I get home from the office today to call while in front of the laptop.

I have also spoken to them today (UK Support).

We tried a few diagnostic tasks on the SSD and restarted. I mentioned that i also had mouse functionality issues (I can't click by double tapping on the log-in screen) and he passed me through to CS.

After a brief chat with them where they offered me a refund, they organised for a replacement.

I also asked if this was a wide issue, and I was told that it wasn't - but that it wasn't unusual to have a problem like this with a small batch.

I hope this helps.
