Aug 14, 2013 10:22 AM in response to perrylajby stevenh21,Hopefully good news!
Just got this email from Apple... maybe they have a fix in place. I'm not going to participate as I use my mac for busines critical work and don't want a beta operating system on it - but this is a positive sign.

Aug 14, 2013 2:48 PM in response to jportnoyby calguy2123,Apple has seeded OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 build 12F30 to developers. The new build is available via Software Update in the Mac App Store and from the newly re-opened Mac Developer Center. Apple continues to say that 10.8.5 has no known issues, and the company asks developers to focus on WiFi, Graphics, Wake from Sleep, PDF Viewing/Accessibility, and Mobile Device Management

Aug 14, 2013 8:46 PM in response to jportnoyby EBUzi,An update on my wake from sleep blackouts and random blackout.
I uninstalled Chrome this last week-end (posted here).
I have not experienced any issues since. Have been using Safari only on a regular basis and all other applications I typically use. No issues.
I just re-installed Chrome again to see if the problem re-appreas. I will post here if it does.
I also was suppose to go to a store for another genius bar appointment but canceled because I got invited to the same AppleSeed program mentioned above.
So Apple IS listening.

Aug 15, 2013 12:45 AM in response to jportnoyby ckbho,Hi everyone,
I'm sorry but I couldn't read all 21 pages in this thread, so I don't know what discussion has gone on there
However, I do want to add on that this problem is with my older sister's laptop as well. The 13" Mac Air was bought on July 29 for her.
Everything works fine except with that issue... I googled the problem and found this thread. Glad to hear that it's not just her air that's doing this, although a shame it's happening to so many people >_<
@EBUzi I'm gonna tell my older sis to uninstall Chrome (dunno if she does have it or not, but assuming she does), and I'll update if that works as a solution or not. Thanks for the post!

Aug 15, 2013 7:00 AM in response to jportnoyby nini2428,Same issue. Bought my MBA mid June, problem began the same day. I left the country the next day for 2 weeks and reported it to apple when I returned. Because I was outside of my 15 day return window they would only troubleshoot. Nothing worked. They told me the next step would be to do a reinstall of the OS. Told them this doesn't sound like MY problem. They claimed it wasn't a "known issue" at which point I told them to google it; they did and conceded it was an issue their other customers were having. I asked them at that time what is it going to take to get this "known issue" status, which they couldn't answer.
I don't have time to get back to the retail location where i bought it, much less do an OS install. Nor do I trust that a brand new Mac that is already showing troubles isn't going to fail just outside of my warranty window. They should be first and foremost offering to extend AppleCare for all w this issue, free of charge if they expect anyone to feel comfortable retaining their current hardware. That wouldn't even be good enough for me; I want no part of this new air and am going to try for a different model.

Aug 15, 2013 4:04 PM in response to ckbhoby EBUzi,It took less then 24 hours after I re-installed Chrome for the problem to re exhibit itself.
The funny thing, for the first 5 hours, it was stable, maybe my use cases were different than day time use, more Netflix, less email and Adobe work ;-).
In any case, it happend four or five times in the last 6 hours (day time use).
I am going to un install Chrome again and wait for 10.8.5 ;-(

Aug 15, 2013 10:30 PM in response to jportnoyby whitemoonlight,I have experienced the same blackout problem with my 2013 MBA 13' with the screen going black and then sleep mode. My 14 day is coming up soon. Should I take my chances and replaced it with hope that I won't get the same issue with the newer one? It seems like a few people on this forum have already tried this route but no luck. What to do, what to do? First time Mac owner.

Aug 16, 2013 1:49 PM in response to whitemoonlightby The-Don,My 14 day is coming up in a few days, too, but I don't want to have to get a replacement, restore all my applications and data, only to find it has the same issue.
Instead of uninstalling Chrome altogether, I have opted to set the screen saver to be activated in 2 minutes instead of sleeping in 2 minutes, and when I have to step away from the laptop for a short while, I just activate screen saver via hot corner, so my laptop would be locked. When I come back and log in, the blackout doesn't happen since it never went to sleep. I set it to sleep after 10 minutes, so that I know my computer would be sleeping and saving energy if my short break turns into a long break.
Hope this helps.
