Oct 23, 2013 2:45 PM in response to jportnoyby aSmilar,Just upgraded to Mavericks. I am unable to repoduce the blackout issue when I close the lid 90% as I used to do in Mountain Lion. But I am able to see new problem as follows:
- Have Chrome running.
- Make sure you are on Battery
- Wait until the notebook sleeps
- After less than one second hit any keyboard key.
The macbook air goes into deep sleep and never wakes up you have to hard reset to wake it up.
If chome is not running. This does not happen.
Anyone else seeing that ?

Oct 23, 2013 6:05 PM in response to jportnoyby Apple On Probation,Have had a new Macbook Air for about 2 weeks now, so far doing better than the Late-2009 white Macbook-piece-of-crap I endured for 3 years... But like everyone else here, got the mysterious black screen, both before and after installing Mavericks. I'm thinking of exchanging it for one of the Macbook Pro Retina's. There have been some traces of beachballing (just like the white piece of crap), and I'm thinking I'm never going to endure what I did again with that white-lie.

Oct 24, 2013 7:51 AM in response to jportnoyby Tristan Collins,There are a number of posts on here describing the same issue, I think. I've put some videos up on YouTube to show the issue I'm having with my Thunderbolt Display that I think is related. The final video is closest to some of the descriptions above.

Oct 24, 2013 8:58 AM in response to jportnoyby Deco191,Here is my video as to what is currently going on with my Macbook Air
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M53FTavq2Js
Usually going nuts on the power button switches things back on. Not this time however.
Taking it into a store within the week and demanding a replacement if the "repair" takes longer than a day. I can't spare a day with my studies at hand. It's been problematic within the first month of purchase.

Oct 24, 2013 8:58 AM in response to Deco191by Tristan Collins,Yep, that's annoying... And zapping the SMC / PRAM does nothing?

Oct 24, 2013 9:01 AM in response to Tristan Collinsby Deco191,Done that twice in the past and it happened soon after, I'm not sure if it is common practise to SMC reset every week or so but that sounds rather backward and regressive for an expensive and "advanced" piece of equipment like this.
I was hoping the Mavericks OS would clear up any software issues. Either it hasn't or the device is simply defective in which I hope to receive a functional one.

Oct 25, 2013 7:43 AM in response to jportnoyby Tommy_139,I have the same problem. the black screen appears after waking computer right after sleep.
It happened to me even during the installation of OS X Mavericks. I boot the computer from the recovery partition, then erase the main partition and tried to install OS X Mavericks again.
Unfortunately as the MBA was downloading the screen got black and I had to restart the whole process. I think this mean the behavior is not related to any third party software issue.
Hope this will be fixed soon.
