Same problem here. 3in MBA 256/i5/4GB...

It fixed itself when I recharged the battery untill 99% and let it on for sometime. I wanted to call Apple but since I am traveling in India I couldnt (actuall the call complete but it was a terrible quality) A wait for some light over the problem.

Same thing happens to my off-the-shelf mid-2013 MBA, so far always when using Firefox to browse the web. Blank screen, only mouse cursor visible, however, when pressing any F keys I can see volume control or brightness notifications on the screen. Usually pressing Power button a few times wakes up the computer again.

So I've been using the new laptop. I don't have the black screen issue yet but I do have the volume issue. I need to troubleshoot further what the issue is.

I received a replacement MBA from Apple this week.  I"m using the new one for the first time on an overseas trip right now and I'm disappointed to report that my two problems (might not be related) are still present:

Black screen - often inside 30 seconds after a wake from sleep (it appears to go back to sleep again, no work is lost).

Mail - I get the spinning wheel of death which I can only resolve with a forced shutdown of that application.  This happens around 30% of the time following a wake from sleep.

I will report this fault when I return.

    I hope this helps.

    I just got my 11inch MBA 2013, 256G HD, 8G RAM.

This is happening to me as well.  It is really annoying.  I notice it happens when I am on battery, but that could also be because that is how I have 95% of the time I am using it.  I usually have Chrome open.  I might try switching to Safari some time and see if it happens again.  About every other day it will go to sleep in the middle of me working on it.

I have just received my !!" macbook air and i have not had this problem at all.. (just for reference)

Same problem here.  2013 MBA 13" 8GB/i7/512GB.  I too had Chrome running when it happened.

This is second by second. From the time it shut off until the time I woke it off. All I was doing was reading the first sentence in an email in Chrome. I wasn't touching the trackpad or keyboard. It's also on battery not AC Adapter. It's hard to pinpoint in the logs what's actually going on before or when it goes black. Maybe I'm missing something.

  • leo_tech Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I had the same issue. Fist I thought I might did something wrong. But it just happens couple of time per day, randomly. I can't reproduce it. But it just keeping coming.

    My configuration:

    2013-Mac Book Air. 13.3 inch, 1.3 i5, 8GB,128GB disk.

Hopefully Apple can fix this with an update. Otherwise, very disappointed.

  • Jamalarr94 Level 1 Level 1 (30 points)

I am definitely seeing a pattern here 13.3 inch screens.. Had my 11ich for 2days and no black screen whatsoever... No loging back on and no random cut off of work either..

  • zforzap Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I have got the same issue. Screen blacks out short after wake up from sleep. I need to press buttons or the trackpad to wake it up again and the wifi is then being connected.

I contacted apple and they said no previous record of similar issue so they advised me to exchange for a new one.

However, the same issue happens again n again.

  • pollyedwards Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I added my original comment to this thread on June 28th.  I was seeing the black screen several times a day.  Now, however, I don't see the issue at all.  I have no idea why it started, nor do I know why it ended.  I did not try to do anything specifically to fix the problem, but it's been at least 4 days since it happened, maybe longer.

    Just more mystery, I'm afraid.

  • JazPrince Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. I've have been experienceing the same issue with my MBA 2013, 13", 256gb, 8gb, i7. Based on some other posts I thought Chrome could have something to do with it so I compltetly uninstalled it. I will continue to test but so far it hasn't happend once in 2 days and it was happening 7-8 times a day. I also rest the SMC ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US ) so it could have been that but if it doesn't happen again for a few days I will re-install chrome and report back.

  • tomtapper Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Apple recently replaced my Macbook Air due to similar problems with the screen that you mentioned. However, after a week the new one developed the same problem. Does the video below look familiar to you??

Wow that's worse than mine with the frequency that it's happening. However, mine doesn't happen with physical movement of the laptop. Every time, the laptop has been down on a desk.
