    Don't get too comfy over that one, looks like Apple recognise there is a way to force a crash and are working hard to prevent that. If they succeed, there will be no way of proving it happens as there is no error report - don't know where you got the idea it's logged, just check out the YouTube videos, it doesn't know it's crashed.


    Don't kid yourselves that Apple give a monkey's about their customer's issues, they don't. It's 7 months since CNET first reported this problem, it took 6 more for Apple to admit it was happening at all and it goes back to the 2011 MBA!


    Apple continue to sell products they know are flawed. I bet they don't have a sales pitch that goes, "Don't worry about the occassional major crash whilst working that will lose everything, it's just a product feature. If you're really lucky, we'll be able to fix it but don't hold your breath whilst we count our money," I can't see them being that honest.

    The question is if that issue is for every unit of the current rMBP modell or if it's something else. The issue discussed here about MBA (Mid 2013) seems to happen to every machine.


    I don't have access to the current version of rMBP so I can't try to reproduce. Will do If I get the chance.

    I jumped ship and got a macbook pro 13" late 2013" model. Knock on wood no problems for me. If I still had the Mba I wouldn't be sitting around for an update till a newer version of air comes out; that is if ever. This might be the last production of the air since rumors are saying the 13" tablet will take its place.

    Well, I changed my MBA (for the second time) due to this sleep freeze issue and paid the extra to get a 13" rMBP.


    Have tried several times to replicate the problem I had with both previous MBA's (I was able to replicate it on most MBAs in Apple store and other Apple suppliers on first or second attempt).  Have not been able to replicate problem on the rMBP - it just wakes exactly as it should.


    I note that people are still waiting for the update that I was told 4 weeks ago was imminent.  I said at the time I would give it 4 weeks (subsequently changed my mind and got the rMBP) and was told by the support person "oh, it will be a lot sooner than that"....keep waiting guys.

    I have been dealing with the problem for months. They replaced every part of my computer and finally gave me a new MBA did the same thing.


    I called corporate and explained my problem and told her I wanted to switch to a macbook pro. I paid the difference between the two and she made it possible for me to switch. If you're as fed up as I was call corporate and spend the extra money, you won't be sorry

    it happened 4 times with me today! screen goes black when waking it up from closed lid clamshell mode.


    ran the apple diagnostic test. doesnt indicate a problem.


    i think i can safely conclude that apple's design might be a product of genius but its quality standards are just a hype!



    3 macbook replacements, 15 repairs

    2 iphone replacements

    1 ipad replacement

    1 ipod replacement

    a dozen earphone replacements, 3 with the earpods just last month.

    Crap, just lost all I've written due to accidentally going back iOS 7 Safari and loosing everything.


    Trust me, there was a log when I reproduced the error using the method I mentioned before. I have sent it to Apple via Also did a "sysdiagnose": man1/sysdiagnose.1.html


    I have been working with Macs (as a technician and user supporter) more or less full time for over a decade. I think I've at least learnt something. :)

    it happened again today. the screen was dull white at aspect ration 4:3 and i could see a garbled up menu bar on top!

    My Mac Air is a year old, screen also keeps going black and I can be on a safari page and it just goes off on it's own I could be in the middle of an email and it flips over to the desktop screen saver.  Also, it keeps freezing and extremely slow.  Had problems last year with it and top it into the store, honestly they weren't very helpful at all, and I was talked into buying the $300 warranty, so we will see if they can figure out what is going on otherwise I will have to take it into a computer shop and pay them, I wonder if Apple will refund my extra warranty.  Don't mean to sound cynical but I loved apple until having all these problems with mac air.  Anyways, maybe I will call them, they are great on the phone but in the store not so great, maybe it is just the store here in Canada. Good luck everyone hope you don't have anymore issues.

    They will give you an option to either transfer or refund the warranty if your machine goes hnder replacement. I have opted for a refund each time since transfer doesn't add to the existing warranty of the new machine but just lets you keep whichever is higher. In refund you get the money back on pro rata basis.


    I got it back on two of macbooks and one iphone.


    Trust me, an apple care warranty is a very good thing to have considering how many times the hardware fails and how expensive the repair parts are!


    Luckily my air is covered under a "4" year apple warranty under an enterprise program.

    The log I got when reproducing the error (like I mentioned on page 53 in this thread) is called ”Sleep Wake Failure” and it could be found by opening in Applications/Utilities and looking under the section ”System Diagnostics Reports”.


    Maybe you who also have this issue happen can look there and see if you have log named the same?

    You know i walked into the Apple Store over here and informed them of this problem. The guy was kind enough to allow me to demonstrate on one of the Airs on display and boom, reproduced. He also tried and found it reproduced. It's almost certain all 2013 Airs have this problem. So, i think the more the problem is reported, the more it receives the attention we all hope it gets sooner than later.
