I just purchased a Brother MFC-J4710DW all-in-one! I have the printer set-up on wi-fi and I have printed from my iphone however when I try to
set-up the wi-fi on my mac to print wirelessly the download just sits there and keeps running for 2 hours! I have checked and I have all the latest updates and my system is OS X 10.8.3! What is going on? Don't get too technical on me I need the wi-fi for dummies book!

Have you actually connected the printer to your network (ignore the iPhone, that uses a different method to access the printer)
What are you downloading?
You don't need to install any software to use that printer if it's connected to your network.
The printer found the network just fine, however the book says to use a cable to the computer for set-up!
Install the cd and go to the "wireless set-up wizard" to set-up wi-fi for this printer in the computer! But when I tried to download the "wireless set-up wizard" it ran for 2 hrs.! I tried printing with the cable un-plugged and nothing!
Go back to the book and find the other method, the one that can be accomplished from the Printer Control Panel.
Once the printer is on the network it can be added in System Preferences.
