Both enter keys and hyphen/ underscore key stopped working for no reason on powerbook g4......Any fixes?

Hi hope someone can help??

I have an older powerbook that I use for FCP 5 and Logic 7....The computer was working pefectly and then I turned off for one week...When I restarted the enter keys and the underscore keys do not work for no apparent reason....all other keys work properly.

I have reinstalled OSX 10.4 and it did not fix the problem.

I have also tried suggested fixes with speech text etc....

Still not working.

Thanks

RJP

I don't have any personal experience but found an apple doc for what it is worth.

And a suggestion to check out.

If the mouse keys feature in the Universal Access System Preferences pane is enabled, many of the keyboard keys may not respond as expected.

I had a similar problem in that the hyphen/underscore, plus/equal and other keys like the quotes, colons, etc., were outputting to the wrong symbols. I looked at System Preferences>Keyboard> Keyboard tab and then the Input Sources button. I had English and two other languages selected.

Having three languages selected was okay... but the problem was in the Menu Bar at the top of the screen. I usually have US English selected in the pull-down menu of "Flags", but I must have inadvertently selected one of the other languages which made my keyboard seem to be messed up.

See image below with the Flag circled in red at the top (US Extended selected). I hope that might be an answer to your problem. I was glad to see the question and replies.. it helped me to look a little farther. BJW

Thanks dalstott, I tried an external and everything worked fine......Any suggestions on what could be faulty (conection etc....)?? Or why this would happen just sitting? The non working keys are only the hyphen, both enter keys and the back slash.......the equal and the shift on the right side are working fine. Thanks for your response and help. RJ
