Is my Mac too old?

Your computer can be upgraded to 1GB or 2GB of RAM and then to Mac OS X 10.6.8, but not to an OS beyond that. Mac OS X 10.6.8 is new enough to run the current iTunes version.

I would like to ask the same question, but of my iMAC 24" (MA878LL) 'All Stock'.

Current: OSX V10.4.10 Tiger

I would like to max it out so that I can run the current version of Final Cut Pro.

- Can I go beyond the 4GB Limit for Memory?

- Can the stock Radeon HD 2600 Pro Graphics Card Memory go beyond 256mb?

- What's the max HD I can install?

According to Mactraker, a model with an order number of MA878LL can actually support 6GB RAM.

I do not believe that one can alter the graphics.

The capacity of the HDD is not a factor or 'show stopper'. It must have the correct form factor so that it physically fits in the iMac.

According to FCP 256 on the graphics board is fine, but 512 is recommended.

I'm also wondering how much it costs to upgrade from my current os to 10.6.8 (which I beleive is the highest my model can go?)

I'm essentially estimating the overall investment into my current unit, as apposed to purchasing a newer (used) unit that has what I need to run FCP suffeciantly.

Looks like a minimal investment so far.

$60 or so to bump the memory

$20 for a software upgrade

$?? to regen the hard drive once I locate the recovery disks.

Then,

$299 for Final Cut Pro

Let me ask you this... Would I be better off locating a used system that has alittle faster processor, has the 512mb on the video card and bump in memory, etc. ??

*Side Note... I have a pending swap offer for the current iMac vs an outdoor tv unit I have plus some cash coming my way. Either way, cash is going out for the unit, I'm just wondering what would be better in the long run and if I'll benifit some from a little better unit?
