How to check if my iphone is locked or unlocked

Buy it from a known site that sells unlocked iPhones. In the USA, the only source for officially (and thus permanently) unlocked new iPhones is Apple themselves.

if you buy online or from some corner store, who are gambling on it, and more than likely it was hacked, not truly unlocked.

if you are buying used, again, you have to just take your chances as there is no way to know, for certain, beforehand. Anyone can say theirs is unlocked, as it is an unproveable point until you get it in your hands and try a SIM card in it.

Ok, are you buying from another individual, store, Apple? If an individual you would need to take sim cards from two different carriers and see if it will read each of them...that would tell you it was unlocked. If a store, make sure they guarantee it is unlocked and will refund if it is not. Apple, well you can rust them that it is if they say so.

Look up the Apple support number in your country and call them. State that you want to check if a phone you intend to purchase is locked, and they should waive the support fee. You will need the serial number of the phone.

Insert a SIM card from another carrier and see if it works.

Did you buy the iPhone unlocked? Did a carrier say it would unlock the iPhone? If another carrier sim does not work then they did not unlock the iPhone.
