Question

Screen is black on viewer or split viewer mode.

After doing updates to my Mac a few days ago I have had this problem.

When I open up aperture I can see all my photos in a library in the browser mode. I can make edits to them and open them up in Photoshop or other programs from the browser mode. If I click on a photo or try to view it from any other viewer or split viewer mode the screen is just black. The program seems to thing the photo is up. It shows the X an Y radius and I can even email it or export it. I just can't see it.

I have tried the Aperture first aid steps and it did nothing. I have tried older libraries and had the same results. I am sure this has something to do with the last update and I can't imagine I am the only one with this issue.

What exactly did you update? What is your current Aperture version and MacOS X version?

So the thumbnails are o.k.

Perhaps your Aperture preferences file is broken.

Try to remove the Aperture preferences as described in this document

Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

See the paragraph: Delete the user preferences.

If you are using MacOS X Lion or Mt. Lion, log off and on again, after removing you User Preferences, otherwise the fix may not take.
