how do i change my optusnet mail configuration to use IMAP

My Optusnet mail is automatically configured to use POP3 with no option to select IMAP even though this is offered by Optusnet. Does anyone know a workaround please.

I struck this problem today after being an Optus customer for 15 years with all my mail accounts as IMAP and wanting to add one of my subaccounts to Mail on this machine. My primary account was added to this machine in January as IMAP, and and to other machines and idevices as IMAP so I knew IMAP is possible.

However, Mail kept wanting to create a POP account.

I then noticed that Little Snitch was asking to let Mail access

mac-services.ls-apple.com.akdns.net on port 443.

I clicked Deny rather than Allow as previously, and voila! Suddenly I was presented with the screen that has a pop-up to choose the account type: POP or IMAP!

And now I have this mail account as IMAP on this machine.

So the solution is: do not allow Mail to access the above address.
