I would like to upgrade my HDD to an SSD and have chosen a Samsung Pro 840. I have a mid-2010 MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Would this SSD be compatible? Also, would this SSD be overkill and a waste of money, or should I buy a different SSD? I am looking for an 250 GB SSD (or anything similair).

Any 2'5" SATA SSD works with your Mac, so you can get this SSD. However, I remember that I have found problems with that SSD in the MacBook Pro forum, things like it stops working after a few weeks. This doesn't happen always, but in order to prevent problems, I recommend you to look for another SSD drive
Any great SSD you recommend? I don't need it to be the fastest that exists, but I don't mind paying a premium for performance and quality. Thanks for your help.

I installed the Samsung 840 (not pro) 250gb drive in my early 2009 macbook. It's a great drive and works like a champ. Lightning fast now too, feels like a new computer. Personally I've had zero problems with it.
