volume fluctuation on macbook air

I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?

MacBook Air (Mid 2013) Software Update 1.0: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1672

This update fixes an issue that in rare instances may cause an intermittent loss in wireless connectivity, an issue with Adobe Photoshop which may cause occasional screen flickering, and an issue which may cause audio volume to fluctuate during video playback.

Downloading the update now; and will report my results. I'm So Excite! (à la Borat)

@someone

Apple is #1 for a reason. And some of you were worried .........

If Apple is #1 they do not deliver new goods with such a bug. Not only "deaf and dumb" working in Copertino, I think. Maybe all the Apple customers have to take a closer look a the shipper-details. My Mac Book Air was directly send out from Far-East. Apple has a hard job to proof product control.

Just got the Update: Think they just deactivated a sound feature ... but works.

This thread has provided me with some solace knowing that I'm not alone. This definitely seems like a widespread software issue.

I like the rest of you recently bought the new MBA 13" just over a week ago. I noticed this problem and first thought it was just me. Then after a few instances I realized that the volume was definitely fluctuating and my initial hypothesis was that the new "noise-cancellation" feature on the Macbook was using some sort of feedback function that would decrease the volume in a relatively silent environment around the device (I even started snapping my finger next to the microphone thinking it would repsond). This is just a theory, I have absolutely no proof and frankly, I'd rather believe it is a software issue than a hardware issue....nobody wants to pay premium prices for faulty machines.

I have downloaded the update and I'll see how it goes. Hopefully this does address the volume issue.

Hi Guys,

I've just resolve the problem after a call to the Technical support.

try this:

Close all the application > Apple > Force Quit and close all you must have only FINDER

from the top of finder: > GO > Computer > Library > Preferences and open the folder.

Find and put in the trash the folder called SYSTEM CONFIGURATION. (do not empty the trash can)

Restart the Mac, and then Empty the Trash.

Good luck!
