volume fluctuation on macbook air

Figured I'd add on so Apple sees another person with this problem. I just got my i7/8g/256gb 13" 2013 macbook air and am having the same issues as everyone else.

Today it started AGAIN at my replacement unit.

I DONT CARE APPLE. I WILL REQUEST FROM AMAZON A REFUND (not second replacement unit) AND I WILL GO FOR THE cRMBP 13... i am fed up!!!!

@DJTaurus I believe, because so many people have this issue on original and replacement machines, that this is a software problem. I have seen countless cases of the replacements having the same issue. Hopefully if enough of us complain apple will come up with an update that solves this issue. If you want an air I would stick in there and wait for the update. Also be sure to call apple and let them know you are having this problem

My first unit did not had only volume drops but also cracking sound from the speekers.... and now the second unit only volume drop. Honeslty i am so dissapointed.... i ll have to wait and see. Contacted amazon and told me if apple wont fix it i can get a refund any time until my 1 year warranty expiration.

You're lucky you have a full year, I only have 13 more days before I decide whether to return it or not. I am going to call apple and ask if I can wait for an update or whether its hardware. The problem is, I'm taking an online course that I cannot take a break from so I may just have to live with it if it is hardware

I am also experiencing the same issue on my new 13" MBA (i5/8GB/256GB) with the playback of videos and music. I have tried disabling "Use ambient noise reduction" in sound preferences, and using the Boom app, but the issue still persists.

I have a 5 day old MacBook Air 13" i7/8GB/256GB and I happened to chance upon this thread. Upon reading this, I went and test it out. I played 4 videos from Apple website: the "Designed By Apple in California", the "Making a difference one app at a time" and two TV ads on iPhone 5. I'm happy to report that there was no volume fluctuation. I'm happy to try out any YouTube videos you find with the issue. Let me have the URL.

I just bought a 13" i5/4GB/128 and while watching Netflix, the volume definitely changes pretty often. I would say every 30 seconds I have to re-adjust the volume to compensate. I have tried this using Chrome and Safari.

It seems to be related to the speaker unit, since with headphones plugged in the problem does not occur.

I have the same problem with my 13" i5/8GB/256. Called AppleCare and tried everything, still not solved. Seems software related, because the problem doesn't occur when playing music in iTunes.

Okay, I thought it was just me - maybe my new 13" MBA isn't adjusting the volume to as great a degree as others but I have noticed the sound going up and down on it's own, most often with web content videos. I was originally thinking it might have something to do with the microphones & the OS trying to adjust for ambient sound - but like it's lowering the volume when it hears loud sounds nearby for some reason. Then as it realizes it's quiet in the room the sound goes back to the correct volume.

Whatever the cause I'm one more "me too" to add to the thread.

I'm having the volume crackling issue as well. Seems almost like static discharges or something. I've encountered strange popping noises every now and then. One time, for about 2 minutes straight, the speakers would make a slight popping sound when I touched the touchpad.

Looks like 9to5mac was nice enough to write up an article on this problem. Hopefully this will help Apple get on top of this.

I wanted to report the same volume problem with my new macbook air 13". I was wondering if I am the only one facing it, or was it a software glitch. Upon searching the internet and reading article at 9to5mac.com looks like I am not alone. Wondering how this skipped through Apple's check! Hoping they release a firmware update soon.
