Installing FCP 5

I just bought a MacBookPro and installed FCP 5. When I tried to launch FCP I recieved an error message saying: configuration error, 512 megabytes of ram is missing. My computer has 512 megabytes of ram so why can I not open the program? Is it necessary for me to buy more ram, if so how much? If I upgraded to FCP 5.1.1 would that save me from buying ram?

ASAIK going to 5.1 is your only option if you have a Mac on Intel.

It may be due to the fact that the video card uses about 64mb of the RAM (unlike desktop system where the video card has its own RAM). Not to mention that the OS uses at least 256 megs. FCP requires 512mb all by itself, but 2gb is recommended. So on your system with only 512mb of RAM installed, FCP has less than 200mb available to it.
