Q: osx 10.8.4 has brought back problems fixed by 10.8.3

10.8.4 has brought back wi-fi issues fixed by 10.8.3. Is there a "simple" fix to this?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

If you are using a non-Apple router, contact the router vendor and ask for a firmware update.

If you are using an Apple router, make sure its Airport software is up to date.

If you are using WEP or WPA1encryption, or 802.11b connectivity, that's obsolete, and should be replaced by an ethernet 802.11g or better bridge on the machine that does not support 802.11g or better, or a USB 2 WiFi stick that you can purchase from http://www.macsales.com/ with 802.11g or better wireless.  WPA2 encryption is a must unless you are nowhere near anyone else's 1500 foot (500 meter) wireless receiver.

If you are within 6 feet or 2 meters of the wireless transmitter, move farther away, as overlapping wireless waves can cause problems.

If you are more than 150 feet (50 meter) from an Apple Airport base station line of sight, or have pipes or file cabinets in the way of line of sight and are less distance, try to move closer to the Airport base station and see if it just was out of wireless range.   Most third party routers have up to 1500 foot range in line of sight.

Look also at your preferred networks in Apple's Airport Setup utility and make sure the wireless network you connect to is the only one listed, and you are set to connect to that as a preferred network.  Add more preferred networks as you visit other places, but only do so after verifying your most heavily used network is working properly.

This is not a problem with wi-fi network, 10.8.3 solved all pre-exisitng 10.8.2 issues, without having to do any of the above. 10.8.4 re-raised these wi-fi issues, printer/time machine on network NAS stopped working again etc

Need a fix to this, as I have to work, and not spend time trying to find a work around to Apple bugs. Glad I kept Dell studio xps when I got Imac, as I guess I'll have to use this until Apple sort this out in 10.8.5. 10.8.3 was excellent while it lasted!

    Virgin media superhub/MBLD 4Tb NAS/epsom office bxf935/ macbook/macbook pro(2013)/Imac (2013) and Dell studio xps windows 7.

10.8.2 couldn't get any of the macbooks/imac NAS working with timemachine, and really difficult to print, however dell worked fine with all. Tried a load of sugested fixes but to no avail. install 10.8.3 onto all apple products, and all devices working without hitch, or amendment to existing settings.

Uploaded 10.8.4 onto imac only, and time machine does not find nas, and struggles to find printer. Tried suggested fixes again, but symptoms similar  to 10.8.2 issues.

Dell continues to work without problem, and macbooks on 10.8.3 continue with no issues.

Exasperated, spending too much time on this.

(PS wife a long term mac user and I decided it to give it a go with imac this year, great.....when it works)

Well, tough to tell what you've tried or not, so forgive me if you tried this...

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

    Reboot.

Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712

    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.

    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.

    If using Wifi/Airport...

Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.222.222

    208.67.220.220

(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).

    Click OK.

Will try to check when I'm on 10.8.4 in a few hours, but I have no network problems in 10.8.4, so might take awhile to surmise your problem.

Do you have any Printer driver updayes available for your Printer from the manufacturer?

A good clue to be certain.  Apple's Airports are typically ones to give you 10.x.x.x addresses.  192.x.x.x addresses come from other routers.   Like I said, you may need a new firmware update for your router if it is non-Apple.

Hi BDAqua and a brody - Upto date firmware for router, and drivers for printer. I Have Chrome installed but only use, safari and firefox.

Have noticed that I am struggling to log into work citrix account again with 10.8.4, where this was markedly improved by 10.8.3.

All seems a bit peculiar, that I encountered all these problems on 10.8.2, 10.8.3 fixed them but 10.8.4 has put me back where I was.

I just wish there was a simple way to revert to 10.8.3, and then I would keep it on that system, until I knew there were no niggles with future OSX updates.

Yeah, I wish Apple would provide means to get or stop at a previous version, like in OSX upto 10.6 allowed.

    10.8 allows.  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1948

You just need someone who either has made a flash drive backup of the full 10.8 installer, or to have made a clone backup before your install that you wish to downgrade.
