I have heard a rumour from the UK industry that Apple intend to stop its support for the XSAN product range and are pulling our of the media server market.
Can anyone shine a light on this and whether it is true or not?

I wouldn't listen to rumors, 9/10 times they are incorrect. Check the public information on mavericks and just keep an eye on it or signup for the developer program and you can check it for yourself.
