Apple TV and iPad Communication

I made a small movie inmy iPad using iMovie with video and photos taken with the iPad. When I played it to Apple TV I noticed that the transfer speed was slow and the movie would stop until more data had been transfered. The distance from the iPad to the Apple TV in this case was 10 to 12 feet. Any suggestions?
