Q: is this the same as MacKeeper with the spiraling color wheel that says you need to clean your Mac?

I keep receiving pop ups with a circular colored spinning wheel advising to click on to clean my Mac from items causing it to slow down.  It also displays the symbol of The Finder and a world globe.  Throughout my using the macbook I occassionally am slowed down by this spinning wheel , but it goes away on its own only to later appear in a pop up advising to clean my computer using this system.  It appears to be ligitimate Apple logos and endorsement but it doesn't seem right.  I am not computer saavy and this just smacks of a program that Apple might have as part of its files to keep the Mac clean, but it also keeps popping up at inopportune times.  Anyone else have this and is it a product Apple has preloaded into the macbook or is it a phishing scam?  Thanks for your input and insight.

MacKeeper is waste and it will only probably damage OS X. Just ignore it.

If you keep seeing MacKeeper popups, where do you see them? If they appear while you are using Safari, I recommend you to reset it to default settings. Open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Reset Safari

Rather than resetting all of Safari, which will cause you to lose history and automatic form entries, you can just go to Safari > Preferences > Security > and turn on the pop-up blocker. You might also enjoy the AdBlock extension from Safari > Extensions.
