MAC OS X wont read DVD discs.

My Mac OS X will only read CD discs. When i insert a DVD disc it just ejects straight away. I can burn and read CD discs but not DVD's.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).


Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd

Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.


You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.

At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.

This will bring up the Help Menu.

Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.

I have always used the same discs so dont think its that issue. I have tried changing the speed that didnt do anything. Now it is having issues readind CD discs as well! may very well have to purchase an external DVD drive but could do with a cheeper fix? any more suggestions im not very good tho if you could explain in as much detail as possible will be much appreciated!
