I want to watch the movie on an airplane.

I don't think this is possible, but If I let it run until the credits and not watch it, will I be able to rewind and watch it on plane??

I rented 8 movies from the iTunes Store, downloaded them completely in Australia. They appear under "rentals" in the VIDEO app. When I try to play them while connected they give the warning "do you want to play this rented movie.? It will expire 48 hours after you start watching it." So I figure I'll save them for viewing on my 30 hour plane ride to the USA. On the plane (with no connection) I press PLAY and get the message "movie cannot be played - OK?"

Brilliant - Apple strikes again. Wouldn't it occur to Apple that watching a rented movie is just the sort of thing you would like to do when you are (a) on an airplane (b) in a remote location where there is no Internet.? Dumb - just plain stupid really.

I agree. I guess Apple wants you to purchase and not rent! Even if the plane has Wifi on it, I cannot watch HBOGo to which I have a subscription. That's why I was wondering if I could get around it by playing the movie but not quite finishing it, rewinding and then starting it from the beginning. I fly so much and don't want to pay $15-$20 for a purchased movie!! There has to be a way!! I also don't want to hold my heavy laptop and rent a DVD from a Redbox. My battery only lasts maybe two hours. Then, I would have to find a Redbox at my destination. USAir took out all video so it doesn't even show a movie. I haven't subscribed to Netflix but I assume it's the same deal - no watching even if the plane has Wifi????

I'rented movies and started to watch them on a plane on several occasions. I was quite happy about that, and that what get me in renting movies on iTunes in the first place.

But on my last 2 trips, I wasn't able to watch the movie from the plane. I had to have an Internet connection to make it work.

I guess it kills any reason to keep renting movies on iTunes to me... How stupid is that?

Also when renting a movie, you have clear informations about how many time you'll get access to the content. Why not making clear infos that an internet connection is require? Feels like a swindle.

Since it took a few hours to download each movie, I started a couple of days ahead of time. You then have 30 days to watch them. Once you click Start, you have 24 hours to watch the movie. Worked like a charm! Very very happy!! I didn't purchase them - I rented them. Purchase will last forever but very expensive compared to renting. I am not sure why some of the others who responded to this thread had any issue. Again - international v. domestic??
