Remote apps aren't waking my Apple TV up..?

Starting today, my remote apps on both my iPhone and iPad aren't able to find the remote. I can't find the actual remote so I've been relying on them to watch Netflix and Hulu, etc. Up until now, my home sharing has been off. I turned it on to see if it would make a difference, but now all I can do is access my Library via the app. I rarely listen to music through Apple TV so I never really needed that capability. Any suggestions on how to reacquaint the devices with the TV?
