Use Mac to connect to Xbox 360

So I have an ethernet cable going to my iMac for internet. I want to use the built in airport so I can use my Mac as a wireless router for my Xbox 360. I already purchased a wireless adpater for my Xbox 360 and I have internet sharing enabled on my Mac. The wireless address appears on my Xbox 360 but when I try to connect it has an IP Address error, can someone please help me?

Is your Mac getting a public or private IP address.. ??

If private please tell us what range.. eg 192.168.1.x

What IP does the xbox get.. eg 10.0.1.x

If you are trying to connect by ICS to a private IP in the same pool as the Mac uses it will fail.

As a second note.. using a computer as a router.. when a real router will cost you $35 or so.. is maybe not the best use of the computer.

A simple wireless router is far far easier to set up and will work far better due to xbox needing upnp to do live games.. and apple not using upnp so it has no way to open ports required.. which then means manually port forwarding everything.

If you posted your IP correctly it is a public IP.

Private is

172.16.0.0172.31.255.255

A 174.x.x.x address should route fine.

What IP does the xbox get from the Mac?

Plug your xbox directly into the main ethernet.. does it work now?? I presume your building service only gives you a single IP.

If you are in a building with private IP addressing.. get a wireless router and sign up to a wireless ISP that will give you a public IP.
