Macbook won't turn on without charger

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

The battery data say the battery should be ok...but if it looks like it is bulging, if you have the model with the battery as part of a door that you can insert/remove, either go to an Apple store and buy a replacement, or take the MacBook in and have the techs at the genius bar test it for you. Then decide about a replacement.

That sounds like the battery as a first guess...go to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and what does it say about the battery Capacity, Cycle count, Condition?

Condition other than Normal is a problem.

The cycle count is the number of full charge cycles the battery has gone through, if you discharge to shutdown and recharge, that is one cycle. If you discharge to 50% and recharge, that is 1/2 cycle. And so on. Just a way of guaging the battery usage and the life left in the battery. So you have a goodly number of charge cycles and a battery that is telling you it needs to be replaced.

In the US the battery for a 13" is $129.

i have the same problem but my battery condition is normal and my cycle count is 344 battery charges but it wont turn on without the charger what could be the problem?

Ok. So I just picked up a Black Macbook (Mid-2007 model) with an after market charger and a bad battery. I purchased a new battery and charger and for some reason the battery won't charge. My mac keeps displaying the "Not Charging" statement in the battery section, but the system information says that there is a battery, but the amperage says zero. I've tried to reset the SMC. Still no luck. When I put in the new charger with the new battery, the charger stays green and the battery doesn't charge. I put in the aftermarket charger, it turns red, but still no charge. Can someone tell me what needs to be done to fix this?

this exact thing is happening to me, soon as my power cable gets knocked out, the macbook switches right off instantly.

Battery is in top condition,

its a 2009 macbook 13"

One thing I have noticed, the battery underneath looks strangly bulging out, meaning it doesnt sit flush , with the mac.

ANy ideas why, or how can I fix this.

sorry to return to this old post, but just want to say, i did get a brand new battery from apple after the bulging incident.....

but get this, that was some 4 months again now, and yet STILL it can not be used without the charger, and to prove a point, just checked teh battery info...its got 4 cycles, lol

So clearly i have a problem with my mac book not being able to be used without the charger being plugged in.

Its getting really annoying now, as if the cable gets puled out, which having kids and a dog happens a lot, to only then see the mac shut off is as you can appreciate getting a bit annoying now.

Also put that with the countless posts on Google about this very problem, I would love someone to be able to fix this any more ideas guys....??

Apple needs to test that machine, whether the genius bar or through Support and determine where the real fault now lies. It sounds a lot like a problem in the charging circuitry itself. That will mean a new logic board most likely.

Take it to an Apple store genius bar or contact Apple support and get the machine into the repair line.
