Apple is not here. This is a user to user forum only.

In fact you can't change the default action in any app in iOS. But I think is not too much trouble. When you hit a link in a mail or message just hold it down and choose copy. Open chrome and paste it there. Also your bookmarks and opened tabs are synced through Google account. I'm using Chrome this way and its ok.

Hi Cheonweb. It's not your fault, but yes, it is actually a lot of trouble. I want to use Google chrome, because it syncs my bookmarks better between devices, links to Google Drive, seems faster, better links from gmail etc. I prefer Chrome's browsing experience and I am ankoyed that Apple restrict my choices on devices that I pay for. Thanks for your reply. I have also tewwted Apple. Is there a good Apple twitter name, does anyone know?

Apple has not been classified as a monopoly as Microsoft was. Should Apple ever be so classified - unlikely given the high level of competition in the smartphone market - then perhaps similar terms would apply. Until then, Apple is under no obligation to allow users to change the default web browser, or even to allow alternate browsers at all though they do.

If you would like to see such a feature, use the feedback link posted in the previous replies.

Regards.

For those that say 'I can't see what the problem is' there is a problem. Using an iPad's mail app if you click on a link in an email it takes you into Safari. If you have installed Chrome, or presumably any other browser, it is bypassed. Copying and pasting a link is a backward step - not sure why it was even suggested.

I am a Google user with a Gmail account so the solution for me was to install the Gmail app - an additional benefit of this is that this app is better than the Apple Mail app. Clicking on a link in an email in Gmail app takes you straight into Chrome. Chrome is better than Safari by a country mile.

If you're so involved in Google products why didn't you just buy a Google tablet?

You do realise that Chrome on an iPad uses EXACTLY the same HTML rendering engine as Safari, so there is NO DIFFERENCE between the two browser as far as displaying websites goes?

In fact Chrome is considerably slower than Safari as it does not have access to Safari's much faster JavaScript engine, so any sites that use JavaScript (i.e. almost all) will be slower in Chrome.

So, technically you are completely wrong that Chrome is better than Safari. It is either identical or slower at displaying websites.
