Stop Excel from Opening - Need a better answer please

I'm running OS 10.7.5 and Microsoft Office 2011

Everytime I restart Excel opens.

This is what I have done:

• Unchecked Open at Login on the Dock

• made sure the check box to reopen applications is unchecked

• Went into Login Items and it is not listed as an item to delete

• Reinstalled Office 2011 from the disc

The problem is still there.

Thank you in advance to the super smart person that has the right answer.

Hi Vashdesigns!

I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to isolate the cause of this issue. First, I would try booting the computer in Safe Mode in order to stop the program from opening on startup, then make sure that the settings you have already mentioned are still set to the desired option. There is an article about booting into Safe Mode here:

Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode

You will also probably want to test the issue a little further by creating a new user account on your computer and booting into that account. An article about doing that can be found right here:

Isolating an issue by using another user account

Hope that helps. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
