lightning adaptor does not fit with iPhone 5 case

Just got an iphone 5 at the Apple store and they picked out a SPECK candy shell case for it. I also needed a lighning adaptor to 30 pin for my car connection. Well surprise surprise, the adaptor does not work with the phone case as the opening on the case is smaller than the adaptor size. Are all iphone 5 cases the same small opening?
