Q: iCloud email on my phone incorrect

Hey.

Recently, I changed the email for my Apple account. However, the icloud email on my iPhone 5 is still the old one, and won't let me delete it because the email and password no longer match. How can I fix this?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.1

I'm adding my problem to this list in hopes of figuring out the problem... I have an added twist.

The reason my email was changed in the first place was due to fraudulent charges made on my itunes account. Apple froze everything and it created a HUUUUUGE mess. I couldn't do ANYTHING with my account for over a week while they figured out that telling me to reset my password ten different ways was NOT going to fix anything. I have, in fact, added the OLD email to my current account and verified it, but it STILL won't work. I'm sure Apple has some sort of block on the email address, but dealing with the aggravation of explaining it all to their tech team again makes me feel sick...

The free iCloud account is pretty useless anyway, so it's no big deal that I can't log in, but it is annoying.

I guess I will just wait for the "bug fix" iOS7 update.

Thank you for this post! If you have a iMac or iBook it's really not a hassle at all. It took me less than five minutes and I'm good to go. Great work around.

I was finally able to correct the problem after I found this link through icloud's website.

    Good luck.

    Hi Julia,

I had a similar problem with my email account. After spending hours on the phone with Apple support and searching online for a few more, I finally figured out a solution!

Just backup your phone to your computer, restore it, and then reset phone from your latest backup. This should either give you the option to turn Find My iPhone on (in which case you should not turn it on) or if it doesn't, Find My iPhone will be off, giving you the option to manually turn it on. In either case, you'll be able to delete the current iCloud account without being prompted for a password. Then, you can sign in with your current apple ID.

    Hope this works!

I seriously need help when I tried to look at the answer in context all it did was make me go to the bottom of the page. I am having the same problem. I tried to delete the account but it keeps asking for my old apple Id that is no longer in use. What do I do?

If you know your apple id password login to id.apple.com go to manage your account on the right login with your current apple id information. once your in change your primary apple id to the old email thats showing up in icloud. once you save that information go back to icloud on your device and try to delete again with the same password. thats worked the best. once the icloud is deleted you can just go back to the site you went to and change your email back to what you want it to.

This is exactly what I did when I had that problem with my phone and it worked.  My current password didn't work so I had to continue to the next step..so, I was able to change my information through facetime iOS 7 may ask for the password to your previous Apple ID when you sign out of iCloud. Resolution 1. Use your current Apple ID password Trying using your current Apple ID password. If that doesn't work, continue to the next step. 2. Sign out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime If you are currently signed in to iMessage or FaceTime 0.◾ ◾ 0.◾ ◾ 0. If you are not signed in to iMessage or FaceTime 0.◾ ◾ 0. 3. Change your Apple ID temporarily If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't work, try these steps: 1.Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address. 2.Tap Settings > iCloud and try to sign out. 3.Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address. 4.Tap Settings > iCloud and sign in with the new Apple ID.

    Hi there

I am not a developer so don't think I should be posting in the developers forum...

I have exactly the same problem as you did... with iCloud asking me for password to old Apple ID and it being wrong every time and therefore I can't delete the iCloud account...

    Please help!

I have a similar problem - except the email address entered when setting up the account on the iphone (recent upgrade to ios8) instead of .com.au I typed .com.ai and so cannot verify the account via email. Neither can I delete the account
