Canon Printer Profiles missing

I've tried Canon and then Adobe, but no workable answer.

After chatting with adobe for over 1/2 hour they had no answer, other then that CS5 was compatible with Mountain Lion.

They also suggested I take out a support contract to pursue the question, sort of costly for a simple answer.

My problem is:

I no longer see Canon Printer Profiles when printing, like I did with Snow Leopard.

I upgraded my Canon drivers, with the help of Canon tech.

Canon tech then suggested I update my CS5 to be compatible with Mountain Lion.

I checked software updates and there was an update for Canon printers and scanners, which I downloaded.

I quit CS5, and re launched it, still no Canon Printer Profiles.

I checked software updates again, and there weren't any, meaning my software was up to date.

After chatting with adobe for over 1/2 hour they had no answer other then that CS5 was compatible with Mountain Lion.

They suggested I take out a support contract, which is sort of costly for a simple answer.

I posted this question on the Adobe forum, but haven't yet received any answers.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks for your help

Hi Frank,

If you open System Preferences and go to Prin & Scan, does the printer show in that list?

Check to see if it shows as being online (printer has to be on), see if utilities are available like checking the ink levels (this will test and verify if communications with the printer are working).

Can you print from other apps like TextEdit, Word etc. ?

Before we focus on Adobe we have to narrow it down 🙂

PrOdigy, I checked as you suggest and the printer shows. I can also access ink levels.

I can print from CS5, and QuarkXPress.

My only problem is I can't select the correct profile for the paper I'm printing on.

I have a profile for some matte card stock which works, but that's from the paper company I purchased the paper from. This still works under the new OS.

Do you happen to know where these profiles are stored, there are some I'd like to delete, perhaps the problem is that there are too many of them. Basically how do I delete a printer profile I no longer use.

Thanks for your reply.

What puzzles me is why OS 10.8 only affected the Canon profiles, and didn't interfer with all the others.

There are about 75 profiles listed.

Any ideas?

I have the software installed but never print from any of them so i may not have those files on my Mac. Have a look inside:

- Applications > *Adobe Program*
- Library > ColorSync > Profiles

- Click the Go menu in the Finder menubar and hold down your Option key, the Library will become visible in the list. Once in the Library, follow the same path to the ColorSync folder there.

Both Libraries also have 'Application Support > Adobe' folders in it, you should be able to find some profile related data in there.

I know my wife had issues with Xerox, they had to send someone from support to her work three times to fix a driver related issue after she upgraded to a newer OS X, maybe it's the same for Canon, i don't know.

greg sahli, I'll bring you up to date.

"What puzzles me is why OS 10.8 only affected the Canon profiles, and didn't interfer with all the others." prompted me to call Canon again. We reinsalled the drivers, again without success.

The Tech lady, unsure of the solution, suggested I print with the printer managing color

When I told her I was able select the Canon paper I use, she said that would be the profile.

There aren't any Canon profiles in the Library>Printer>Canon folder.

Apparently, with Mountain Lion, the old Canon profiles are not loaded.

At any rate, I printed a photo using the printer to manage color and got some great results.

That's the answer to 2 days work.

I wish to thank you for your efforts and guidance in helping solve my problem.

Have a nice summer.

Not true. The paper profiles for the Canon papers for specific printers are located in Library > Printers > Canon > BJPrinter > Resources > ICCProfiles. Your iP3600 profile is here.

The process to use these profiles is to select the paper to be used via the Quality & Media menu.

And since you were using CS5, the action of setting the printer to manage the colours is preferred because you can then select the supporting paper profile via the Q&M menu.

I followed your lead and in the folder I find

"IP3600series_unif.canonicc"

I don't understand what this means.

I was able to select the correct media both with CS5 and printer managing color, and also be able to select their profiles which were SP1, 2, 3 and I think GL.

I always had CS5 manage the color, but now that I see good results with the printer managing color, I don't feel so badly.

I still have the profile for the other paper I use.

If having the printer manage color is consistent, then I don't mind working this way, it was just too frustrating not knowing where the profiles went.

I think I understand your thinking.

Thanks again for not sleeping on the job.
