Drop Box folder in the Public folder not showing on the network

Hi everyone,

I am running a MacBook Pro 2010 running OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. We have an office and multiple mac computers connected to our network. For us to transfer files we use the Drop Box folder inside the Public folder (We do not use the dropbox website/service). We would use the finder and click on the computer on the sidebar, open the Drop Box folder and drag files in with no hassel. However my Drop Box folder is not showing up when other users are trying to access my computer via the network.

My file sharing is on and I have attached an image with the settings I am using. I have compared these settings to other macs in the office that have a working Drop Box folder and they match. Hope you guys can help me.

Other users cannot read the Drop Box folder so there is no way to display it alone on the network. They cannot open the folder, which is what would be required to display it as a share on the network.

I would think the only thing you could do is share the Public folder, which would give everyone the ability to drop things on the Drop Box.

Were you able to see the public folders once you shared them out?

No I wasn't able to see anything from another computer. After clicking on my computer nothing would load up. Other mac drop boxes would load just fine. I understand that other users can't read that folder but it would still show up on the network. When people were able to drop files in they would get a dialog that pops up saying "Files dropped into this folder will not be seen by you blah blah click continue to drop files in."

Well back when I was running 10.7 Lion, people would be able to click on my computer in the finder and the Drop Box folder would show up. They would not be able to access the folder but they would be able to drag and drop files into that Drop Box folder. I will probably go to the apple store cause I have compared to at least 3 other macs in the office all running 10.8.3 Mountain Lion and they have the same settings as me.

I have been using air drop which works fine but the problem is I would always have to be at my computer to accept a file. I like the fact that my co workers could just randomly drag files to my computers while im away getting coffee or in another room.

Permissions are wrong. Staff should have the same permissivons than Everyone. And I can not see the Custom permissions for you. In permissions should appear to Eric. One with read and write permissions and other with Custom permissions. To define Custom permissions do the following:

chmod +a "short_username allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directory_i nherit" /Users/short_username/Public/Drop\ Box/
