Is Apple TV just a wireless router? Can my local wireless network on my AT&T 2 wire router perform the same functions?

AppleTV is an iOS based computer device. You need a network connection (wireless) to use it, and some content does require subscriptions, but not all. An AppleID (iTunes account) is also needed. No, your wireless router does not do the same thing, nor will the Apple TV replace it.
Thanks 4ur prompt rly. Other users have sited problems with 2wire & atv2. What is your take on comparability between these systems?
Since I wouldn't voluntarily touch AT&T with a ten foot pole, I couldn't say. Adn I have no experience with 2 wire. My AppleTV works fine with my DSL service (local CLEC) and Airport Extreme.
I do not have many options in my 1960s hood.

My Apple TV 2 works fine with AT&T (although I actually run an Apple Extreme now for my network) and the ATV 3 has had no issues with the 2wire that I have seen. Unless you are going to buy a used ATV you will be getting the ATV 3.
