How do i convert a MOD File?

My video files from my camcorder are coming over as MOD files and my MAC is not able to open them so i can view or convert them. What do i need to do to convert to a file MAC can recognize? Someone said to download HandBrake app to convert but it is not available on app store.

In my personal experience, it seems feasible.

I know the fact that QuickTime MOV extension can be changed to .mp4 and works available.

If you want to view the MOD files on a Mac, you can download a versatile player like VLC, plays pretty much of video/audio files.

If you want to handle MOD files on Mac for specific using such as syncing to iOS device, or import into FCP for editing, then you should convert them using a third-party conversion utility.

I have been using AppGeeker for a long time and it can convert almost anything to anything (in batch as well). Audio or video. Got if for one specific thing, but now use it almost daily for a variety of conversions.

In the Finder, single-click the file name, then single-click it again. This will enable you to edit the filename. Change the .mod extension to .mpg. You may get a verification message asking if you really want to change the extension; say yes.

Hint: make sure to pause between the first and second single-clicks or the action will be interpreted as a double click instead and OS X will attempt to open the file instead of allowing you to change the filename.

MOD files are a proprietary JVC video file type. Some Panasonic & Canon camcorders also use it. MOD & TOD files have always been difficult to use.

To view the files, try just changing the .mod extension to .mpg and see if that works (it often does).

If you want to edit the video, you need to convert it to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec. Try using MPEG Streamclip. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest Clipwrap .

If you want to edit the video files, Handbrake is definitely NOT the correct app to use because it doesn't output editable formats, and it certainly doesn't create QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec files.
