unable to connect to apple tv

Hello I am unable to connect my Apple mini to the Apple TV.

Apple is 6 months old and has mountain lion 10.8.4

apple TV is also the latest version 5.3 softeware version and model md199nfNF/A

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Apple TV model: md199nf/a
