Q: bluetooth macbook and iphone won't recognise each other

I am trying to connect my macbook pro to my iphone 4 using bluetooth. but they don't seem to find each other.

See this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 describing what Bluetooth profiles the iPhone supports. You cannot connect the computer and iPhone together for the purpose of trading files.

What are you trying to connect and do?

I'm trying to use my phone as a remote control/screen on keypad where there is no wifi

What are you trying to remote control from the phone? Could you please explain this a little more? I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to do on the Macbook with the iPhone.
