I have an HP LaserJet 1212nf MFP and with some updates by Apple to OSX, I cannot scan from the HP software. I have contacted Apple and HP and both say they are aware of the issue but no fix is yet available.

Delete the scanner from System Preferences > Print & Scan > Scan
Then go to the HP site and download the drivers for your scanner.
Then go back to System Preferences > Print & Scan > Scan and click + to add the scanner.
Sometimes fresh drivers (software) can help after Apple updates.
The drivers for this printer come from Apple Software Updates. Typically printers that get their drivers this way don't use HP software to scan. Will Image Capture or Preview work?

I installed the update and each time i do, it works till i turn off the Mac. Once i do that and reboot, the same issue appears, "scanner not connected". The HP software worked fine for a couple of months until there was an OSX update and i have had the problem ever since.
It does not appear in the Scanner section or Fax. Just the printer section

Yes the drivers are available what i am saying is that in the Settings/Scanner/Scan the HP does not appear as a scanner
Hmm... The OS update may have broken the IIC drivers for the printer. If this were the case, the only thing you could do is wait for an update through Apple Software Updates. What update was it that caused this problem?

No Caroly Samit. Hp does not have a driver of software download on their site. Everthing for this printer comes through Apple Software Updates.

In the first post, it listed your OS as 10.8.2. Is that right, or do you now have 10.8.4? If not, see if updating to 10.8.4 will help. Let me know.

Hi michaelsomberg,
Are you scanning with HP Scan or the HP Director from a previous installation? If so, the latest HP Printer Driver Update 2.14 included an update for your device which allows scanning via Image Capture. However, this new HP Scanner plugin has a conflict with your HP Scan/HP Director software.
So there are two solutions for you:
1. Use the Image Capture for scanning - you can start it from Print & Scan, Preview or Image Capture itself.
2. Remove the HP Scanner.app:
The plugin is located in Macintosh HD/Library/Image Capture/Devices.
Only remove the “HP Scanner.app” and not the “HPScanner.app”. Those are different drivers. If you remove the “HPScanner.app” and you have another HP Multifunction device such as Officejet or Photosmart it may cause the ICA scanning fail for it too.
So please do only remove the “HP Scanner.app” (the one with the space between “HP” and “Scanner”).
It might be that the HP Scanner plug-in is in use and you cannot move it into the trash bin. In that case open the Activity Monitor (located in Applications/Utilities folder). Search for HP – the HP Scanner will be listed. Highlight HP Scanner and click on Quit Process. Then you can move the file into the trash bin. Restart the Mac.
Hence this plugin is removed, the HP Scan will be able to communicate with the Laserjet and scanning should work fine. However, you will not be able to use the ICA (scan via Preview, Print & Scan or Image Capture) anymore.
