Q: how do you project your desktop using a projector?  I can hook it up but cannot get my screen projected.

I have purchased the proper jack and can hook up a projector to my Macbook Air.  I cannot get the image on my screen to project.  How do I get what is on my laptop to project?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Do you see the background image?

If so, either drag windows onto the Projector's display, or set your display settings to Mirror in the Displays system preferences.

If you are not getting a signal at all, I have found some adaptors that change video "flavors" do not work well. If you have an adaptor that converts DVI to VGA, for example, it may not work. You need to go straight from a VGA adaptor for your DisplayPort or Thunderbolt to the VGA connector on the Projector.
