Why do I keep getting distortion and drop outs when I burn cds of my Windows iTunes music library?

After trying a few times to burn playlists from my Windows iTunes library I keep on getting drop outs and scratchy sound on all tracks when the cd is played on a quality CD player. I cleaned the Windows computer DVD/CD drive as well as the CD player. I also removed some sound enhancement software by Creative from the computer. I today played a Sheffield Test cd on the CD player and each song was played flawlessly. I cannot figure out what would cause this burn disk issue - help!
